Hi! Where have I been the past three days? Cooperstown, NY! The cutest town on the planet Earth and home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Enjoy some photos, okay? Okay!
Had to stop for petrol in Fracksville, PA. This was at the Mobil station (which required making a near-impossible left-hand turn to get to). Anyone know what the deal with B.R. Grumpy's is? Is that bear an accountant? What does 'B.R.' stand for? Is 'Grumpy' his last name?
That's all I've got. Cooperstown was quite chilly and a bit on the snowy side. Very pretty and the locals are all pretty friendly. The only down side was that a lot of stuff in the area was closed because this is considered the off-season. Learned that the hard way after driving out into the middle of nowhere to check out the famed Prehistoric Creatures Museum. Not open until May. Not cool! What about the people that want to look at neon painted papier mache dinosaurs in December!??
Cooperstown, I'll be back. That's for certain.
What's the best present you gave this year?
A custom-made Jean Beliveau jersey for my brother. His reaction when he opened it was absolutely priceless. The fact that he's been wearing it since this morning makes me think that it was a hit. :-)
Merry Christmas!!!
What's your favorite holiday movie?
I love ALL of them. Frosty, Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Charlie Brown (oh, that little tree!)..
But my very favorite...there is a tie.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
"Welcome, Christmas, bring your cheer. Cheer to all Whos far and near.
Christmas Day is in our grasp so long as we have hands to clasp.
Christmas Day will always be just as long as we have we. Welcome
Christmas while we stand, heart to heart and hand in hand."
It's a Wonderful Life.
Probably one of my favorite movies of all time. It's impossible for me not to get a little weepy when I watch this one. Particularly at the end when Harry says "a toast to my big brother George - the richest man in town." Oh God, kills me every time.
So I'm being a jerk on MySpace right now - something I haven't done in a long time. Amongst the billion ads on MySpace was this little gem...
Oh yeah. I was in Philadelphia last night to watch my Flyers lose again.
In case anyone is wondering why I've been going to so many hockey games this season, 11 weekend game tickets was a Christmas gift from my mom to my brother and I this year. Of course THIS had to be the season that we decide to spring for partial season tickets.
Five more games to go for me. Hopefully there will be at least ONE win.
The last time I saw them win in person? My birthday...April 28th, 2006 - playoff game against Buffalo. That's waaayy too long ago.
Given that the boys haven't given me a ton to cheer about this year, I've taken to focusing on the entertainment happening around me.
There's the dude in Section 219. The guy who wears the orange Under Armour shirt and dances like a maniac between faceoffs. He's incredible. Not the slightest hint of self-consciousness or insecurity...homeboy has got some moves.
Then there's the older woman who sits about two rows behind me. She is me in about 40 years. Not only is she a die-hard Flyers fan, but on numerous occasions, she says EXACTLY what I'm thinking. She yelled at some girl for trying to get up during the game (rather than during a stoppage in play). The freaky thing was that the words she was yelling were the exact words I was thinking. I can't wait to be that woman when I grow up.
Ovechkin did that classy move again. The one where he gets picked as star of the game and gives his game stick to a kid. He deserves so much better than the Capitals. I said it before and I'll say it again - Red Wings fans will love him when he ends up in Detroit.
I'll post pictures if I remember to have Brendan send them to me.
Facebook is confusing me so much that I'm ready to give up on it (mere hours after signing up for an account). I commend anyone who has the energy for that stuff - because I'm lacking it.
My ankle is feeling awesome. Cortisone is my favorite.
After some consideration, I decided I kinda love the look of "polar white." Took this little baby for a test drive this morning and fell in love. Hard. The deal will most likely be finalized later in the week.
Ignore the little bit of dirt. The dealer was going to get her properly washed before the test drive, but the temperature is in the teens here and their car wash was frozen.
Exciting!!!
Had THE appointment today. That CT scan I did a few weeks ago? There isn't A bone fragment floating around in my ankle - there are THREE (maybe a fourth).
We're taking a conservative approach. Part of that approach involves pumping my ankle full of cortisone and seeing how it's holding up six weeks from now. At that point I'll have to decide whether surgery is the route I want to take. Oy.
Well immediately after getting the shots (one on either side of my ankle), I went to get up off the table and felt woozy. I thought it was "stood up too quickly" syndrome and figured it would pass. It didn't. I got extremely lightheaded, mumbled something about not feeling good and tried to sit in the guest chair. The ortho was like "no way, Jose" and caught me before I collapsed. Yep - I almost fainted in my doctor's office. Sweet. I'm not sure how I ended up back on the exam table - my guess is that I got picked up. Way. To. Go.
Apparently fainting isn't a side effect of cortisone injections, so we think I psyched myself out with the whole act of getting a shot. Who knows what my problem was - I don't normally have a problem with needles, except for this time when I behaved like a complete spazz.
It took three tries before I was stable enough to leave the exam room. It took one more try before I could actually leave the doctor's office. The receptionist took one look at me and we had this exchange:
Her: Are you sure you're okay? You look really pale.
Me: I'm really pale to begin with, so this might be normal.
That answer didn't suffice, so she insisted on making me a plate of fresh fruit and chocolate truffles. It was the kindest thing anyone outside my "inner circle" has done for me in a long time. It was also kind of random sitting in their break room, having a snack and listening to a woman get fluid drained from her shoulder.
Since I came home from work (yeah, I went back to work after that - I'm a trooper), I've been feeling some flare up from the cortisone. It hurts. It's supposed to go away in like a day or so, but oh my God, this hurts. After the pain tones down, I'll be able to tell if the cortisone has "calmed down" the bone chip situation like we hope it will.
Six weeks. Oy!
