What are your deal breakers in a relationship?
Infidelity. I have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to that.
What is (or would be) your DJ name?
I already have one. It's DJ Goldilox.
Goldilox in da house!
What was the most embarrassing hobby you've ever had?
Submitted by Billie Fable.
Oh God. I don't think Vox's servers are large enough for me to go into detail about all my embarassing hobbies.
See, in my youth, I was quick to jump on the bandwagon with whatever was trendy or of-the-moment. Whatever it was, I was into it. I wasn't a conformist. I just enjoy being in the midst of a good frenzy.
Probably the most puzzling, embarassing and time-consuming hobby I had was collecting erasers.
Yes. Erasers.
I don't know if this hobby was happening on the mainland, but it was a HUGE deal in Hawaii. Little erasers shaped like everything under the sun....horses, dinosaurs, food, flowers, sushi, palm trees, Hello Kitty characters, etc. Everything about them appealed to me - they were tiny, colorful, cute and dirt cheap enough that my parents would never say no when I asked for more.
The hobby was huge amongst girls in my 4th grade class. We would carry our precious collections around in see-through Sanrio pencil boxes. Lunch periods would be spent painstakingly organizing our pristine erasers in a manner that might have hinted towards the early stages of OCD. We NEVER used those erasers to erase anything. They never even came close to pencil lead. Erasing was a job for Pink Pearl - not my adorable clown head eraser.
The fad kind of died down during the end of the school year. Slap bracelets and an impromptu hoola hoop resurgance tore us away from our miniature rubber trophies. When I moved back to the mainland, my new friends thought my erasers were cute, but strange to collect.
To the best of my knowledge, my collection is still somewhere in my parent's basement. I believe it did survive one of the great Dad-was-bored-on-a-Saturday-afternoon purges. It was an impressive collection that I bet even my dad could respect.
What are your plans for the weekend?
Saturday: the boyfriend and I are going to a frame shop to pick out mattes for his precious prints. He claims to need my expert eye for matching colors. I'm always pleased when someone needs one of my obscure talents. After that we're getting coffee and heading into DC to see what's going on there for the holiday weekend. For dinner, we're attending a friend's BBQ.
Sunday: attending an early show for PotC3 and doing lunch with the family. I'll probably do some chores and then have dinner with the boyfriend and his parents.
Monday: The boyfriend and I are thinking about checking out the festivities downtown. I want to go back to Gravelly Point and watch the planes lane. I could do that all day.
What are you going to do with your tax return?
Submitted by KB.
I'm depositing it into my high-yield savings account. Yeah, I surprised myself with that one! This will be the first year I don't blow it all on some camera-related accessory or something of that nature. Maybe I'm finally becoming a grown-up?
What was your worst cooking experience?
I put a Cup of Noodles in the microwave without water. There was a lot of smoke.
In my defense, I was very sick with the flu when that happened.
Did you order Girl Scout cookies this year? What kind?
I didn't actually order them, but I did buy some from outside of MicroCenter last week. Man, those Girl Scouts were like pushers! While I was standing there trying to decide which cookies I wanted (which was more like "which cookies do I want for Round 1 of cookie buying?"), there was one little girl jumping circles around me singing the praises of their cookie line-up. Thanks angel, but you're dealing with a season cookie vet here. I know ALL about these babies.
My haul included Samoas, Thin Mints and Trefoils. Hopefully they'll be aroundthis weekend so I can buy a box of Do-Si-Dos and Tagalongs (and more Samoas, Thin Mints....).
God, Girl Scout Cookies are like my crack cocaine.
